 Political Causes-Discontent among the Indian Rulers

• The policies of Subsidiary Alliance and Doctrine of Lapse deprived them from their power and status.
• The annexation of Awadh in 1856, on the grounds of Maladministration, deeply hurt the sentiments of  Company's sepoys.
• Under the British, the common people had to pay even more taxes.
• The feelings of Muslims and common people were greatly hurt when the names of Mughal Kings were removed from the coins.
