Overview on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The 17 SDGs are a set of global goals adopted by the United Nations
in 2015 to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure peace and prosperity for all people by 2030. They cover various aspects of sustainable development, such as health, education, gender equality, clean energy, climate action, and more. The SDGs are integrated, meaning that they recognize the interdependence of social, economic, and environmental dimensions of development. They also emphasize the need for partnerships and cooperation among all stakeholders, including governments, civil society, private sector, and individuals. The SDGs are based on decades of work by countries and the UN on various development agendas, such as
Agenda 21, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and the Rio+20 outcome document. The SDGs aim to build on the achievements of the MDGs and address their gaps and challenges. The SDGs are monitored by a set of indicators that measure progress and performance at different levels.
